This week 5th and 6th class are investigating science, working on projects in combining materials and ingredients as to develop their own ideas on what works.

The Children from Mrs. Brickley's room was very busy preparing their present for their mammy's. 
'This week in Mrs. Brickley's room the children where learning about Fire Safety. We had special guests call to the school and talk about fire prevention and keeping yourself safe from fire and about the fireman's job they also gave great fire demonstrations and showed how Fire extinguisher and the fire blanket helps put out fires . Thanks to all our guest speakers. In Mrs. Brickley's room the children were very busy making Shamrock hats, and lovely Shamrock decorations for their Art & Crafts.   Great music was heard in the school hallway as Mickey played a few songs on his accordion for the children, just after the school rehearsed for the St.Patrick's Day Parade.
Learning science should stimulate curiosity and it's fun. It develops children’s skills and their understanding of science concepts. For this weeks science learning in Mrs. Brickley's room the Children in was encouraged to play with magnets and to investigate their effects on different materials and become aware that magnets attract i.e. pull or push materials such as iron and steel. Today the children designed their own fishing game, using a magnet. The magnet was at the end of their fishing rod, as they caught plenty of fish. World Book Day is a great day for children to develop their imagination and celebrate their favourite authors, illustrators, books and, of course, reading! The activities during the day are designed to encourage children to explore the pleasures of reading and their creativity. We had a fun World Book Day as the children brought in their favourite book and dressed up as a character in the book.
A tremendous effort was put in by 6th class as they planned and organised the run around the triangle to raise money for such a worthy cause the Jack and Jill foundation. They raised over 300 euro.  For their Art project this week the children in Mrs. Brickley's room made very creative and colourful sheep to graze in the field. Such a beautiful field of sheep.  |
