5th and 6th class created Scoil Fionntáin Naofa Carol Singers in Visual Arts using the poem 'The Carol Singers' by Margaret G. Rhodes as the stimulus. The Carol Singersby Margaret G. Rhodes
Last night the carol-singers came When I had gone to bed, Upon the crisp white path outside I heard them softly tread. I sat upright to listen, for I knew they came to tell, Of all the things that happened on The very first Noel. Upon my ceiling flickering I saw their lantern glow, And then they sang their carols sweet Of Christmas long ago. And when at last they went away, Their carol-singing done, There was a little boy who wished They'd only just begun. Junior and Senior Infants and 3rd and 4th class designed Christmas jumpers for Ryan Tubridy for the 'Late Late Toy Show'. They were hoping that he would choose one of their creations to showcase on the night! Junior and Senior Infants created their own Winter Wonderland with snow covered trees through the medium of paint.
We had a wonderful opportunity this term to work with ceramicist Monica O'Meara as part of the 'Artists in School' scheme in partnership with the Arts Office in Laois County Council. Monica worked with all classes in the school in the medium of clay. At the outset of the partnership, 1st to 4th classes visited an exhibition of Monica's beautiful ceramic work in Abbeyleix Library. Lots of very purposeful looking and responding to Art happened during the visit. Thereafter, Monica visited the school to work with each of the classrooms. All classes did very imaginative and creative work in clay with Monica, which culminated in each pupil producing their own unique and individualised Christmas decoration. Monica then fired these in the kiln in her studio and delivered them to the school in time for Christmas! It was a wonderful experience overall. Junior and Senior Infants did very imaginative and creative work in the Fabric and Fibre strand of the Visual Arts curriculum. They decided they would like to build a snowman!
5th & 6th class explored Hydraulics as part of their unit of work on Forces in Science. They used syringes and plastic tubing to create their own hydraulic systems. |
